Spoof: Big Brother Helps You Order a Pizza

Ok, so it’s not really this bad… yet.  But if the incremental intrusions into our privacy aren’t stopped, a phone call like this isn’t so far-fetched for our future.

Good god, it’s already gotten a bit like that when I order a pizza. If you give them your name they have your phone number, full name, address and credit card number on record. Some people like it when they end the order by saying “Thank you, Mr. Powell” (or whatever your last name is). I find it a tad creepy.

I find my iphone scary when it asks me if I want to use my current location. Steve Jobs knows where I am, who I call, what I listen to, what sites I visit, and what I order on-line. I’m sure the government knows that and more…sigh.

After watching Steve Jobs on “Dancing with the Stars” the other night at my parents, the idea of him having that info doesn’t seem so scary, lol. But you’re right about the government part.

Right now I’m fighting a battle in my state regarding E-Verify. To help combat illegal immigration, a coalition of Alabama conservatives are trying to make it the law for all employers to use E-Verify. My question to them is “Why are we allowing the government to invade even further into our privacy with that program, legitimizing the idea that we have to have the federal gov’s permission to get a job, in order to solve a problem (illegal immigration) that was created by the federal government in the first place?”

It’s like Franklin said- Those who give up liberty in order to gain security, deserve neither and will lose both.
