Drug War Criticism Goes Mainstream

For a while, paralleling the colossal failure that is the “War on Drugs” with Prohibition was something one would only see in banners at events like Seattle’s Hempfest. For whatever reason, this seems to have gone mainstream recently, with commentators ranging from Christopher Hitchens to Rachel Maddow throwing potshots at the decades-long governmental effort to curb illegal drugs. Could we be witnessing a shift in attitudes?

That’s a great article. I like that he argues for more than just decriminalization of marijuana - and in the Wall Street Journal! Talking about legalizing cocaine or heroin used to be fringe, but I think alot of people may be waking up to the obscene amount of money we spend trying to police what people do with their own lives. Imagine the bridges that could be built, the schools that could be built and the budget that could be balanced if we stopped doing that.
