Bush Ends 8 Year Reign With 22% Approval

CBS & the NYT released what will probably be their last Presidential Approval poll for George W. Bush as a sitting President. The results were, well, unsurprising at 22% approval.

(CBS) President Bush will leave office as one of the most unpopular departing presidents in history, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll showing Mr. Bush’s final approval rating at 22 percent.

Seventy-three percent say they disapprove of the way Mr. Bush has handled his job as president over the last eight years.

Mr. Bush’s final approval rating is the lowest final rating for an outgoing president since Gallup began asking about presidential approval more than 70 years ago.

The rating is far below the final ratings of recent two-term presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan, who both ended their terms with a 68 percent approval rating, according to CBS News polling. - CBS

Hopefully this will be seen as a final indictment on the evil ideology that is neoconservativism, though I do readily expect them to work their way back into positions of power after a few years of laying low.

Obama: Private Education For My Family, Not For Yours

Washington Post reported last month that the Obama daughters will be attending an elite private school:

Continuing a tradition among Washington’s power elite, President-elect Barack Obama and his wife have decided to send their kids to Sidwell Friends School.Michelle Obama confirmed yesterday that Malia and Sasha, the incoming first daughters, will enroll at the pricey private school when the family moves into the White House in January.

On Voting for the Lesser of Evils

As election day is dawning upon us, emotions are running high, particularly among those entrapped in the major political party of their choice, urging those of us who cannot abide either of the major party nominees to pick the “lesser of evils”.  The reason given depends on which side of the divide from which it comes.  I’ve been hearing, or expect to hear, from my Obama-supporting friends, “You MUST vote for Obama, because we cannot have eight more years of Bush”.

Hillary’s (Not-So) Hidden Agenda

Her speech is being hailed as brilliant, moving, and inspiring; but, the question is “Was it convincing?”

Hillary’s supporters are giving mixed reviews.  Some have made their intention of supporting Senator Obama clear, while others area adopting a “wait and see” approach, curious as to how Obama and Biden react to the tough questions facing them in the coming debates.

Unfortunately for Obama, the most vocal of Clinton’s supporters are the ones who have no intention of ever supporting the Democrat Party’s nominee, instead opting to vote for McCain or a third-party candidate.  So while it would appear that Hillary failed in her effort to deliver all of her 18 million voters to Obama, one has to wonder if that was truly her goal.

62 Agencies Needed to Secure “Democratic” Convention

The AP News is reporting about the security command center in Denver for next week’s Democratic Convention. When I saw the report I could not help but ask the question - Why do you need more security for a political convention than for the transportation of a nuclear weapon? It was only a century ago that a regular citizen could knock on the White House front door and have the President of the United States answer. The necessity and level of security for public officials seems to correlate with very high accuracy to how many of our liberties they restrict through the use of government force.
