Tax Day Tea Party

A Hot Cup of TEA

Recently, the TEA Party movement celebrated its first anniversary. At first the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party activists were dismissed as a few grumpy right-wingers upset that America elected a black president. They were given little credence beyond being an amusing political side show. That soon changed. On April 15th hundreds of thousands of average Americans showed up at protest rallies across the nation, outraged at the “stimulus” package of goodies doled out to special interests, liberal activism organizations and Democrat pet projects. CNN reported that a few thousand people showed up at the rally in Atlanta, but I was there and can assure you that it was close to ten-fold that amount. It was shoulder-to-shoulder for about four blocks in one direction, not counting the people on the side streets.

Once they could no longer be dismissed as a fringe element, TEA Party activists were labeled as “Astro-turf” (fake grass roots), accused of being flunkies of Big Corporate America, mindlessly doing the bidding of their masters. They were accused of being a fabrication of FOX News and the Republican Party. They were accused of being everything except what they are…average Americans, generally with traditional conservative values, who were fed up over 20 years of Bush-Clinton-Bush politics, two political parties who paid only lip service to the people they claimed to serve while engaging in a bacchanalian orgy of political perks, who had finally been pushed over the edge by a pork-laden spending bill of almost $800 billion. They were saying “Enough is enough!”, and they were going to make their voices be heard.

Shaping the Debate

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead

The left leaning media outlets made much of the numbers at Wednesday’s Tea Parties. Keith Olbermann especially mocked some Tea Parties attended by less than recent sporting events. Understanding that Olbermann’s primary objective is not to inform (but rather to sell advertising), his observations (as well as those of his fellow travelers) avoid the important point.

Despite the assertions of most MSM outlets, the Tax Day Tea Parties were not Republican love-fests.  Most who attended are just as angry at the ridiculous expanse of the federal government under the Bush administration as we are at Obama’s clear intent to continue what W started.  This video is a clear example.

However, sources indicate that this may be just the beginning.  Are you ready to attend meetings and rallies for your local RINO legislator and let him or her know how you feel about their voting record?  Sounds like it’s time to turn up the heat.

Dissent is Not Unhealthy, It’s Patriotic

Dissent is “unhealthy”:

A top adviser to President Barack Obama takes a dim view of last week’s anti-tax “tea parties,” promoted by organizers in the spirit of the Boston Tea Party.

“The thing that bewilders me is this president just cut taxes for 95 percent of the American people. So I think the tea bags should be directed elsewhere because he certainly understands the burden that people face,” David Axelrod said Sunday.

The rallies coincided with the deadline to file income taxes, and gave people a chance also to voice frustrations about government spending and corporate bailouts.
[…]
Axelrod was asked on CBS’ “Face the Nation” for his opinion on what the show’s host described as “this spreading and very public disaffection with not only the government, but especially the Obama administration.”

Tea Party Poster: Obama Hood

When Obama first rolled out his tax policy during the election, we were inspired to create this graphic. It’s more relevant now, and I have had more requests than ever to use it for the Tax Day Tea Party protests.

Feel free to make whatever you would like out of it for next weeks festivities. I’ve included the PSD below. Have fun.

We hope you enjoy it. Feel free to run with it yourself by downloading the PSD, please just toss a little credit our way when you do.

Legacy of the Ron Paul Presidential Campaign

In 2008, I joined the loud chorus of Ron Paul supporters who cried that the system is broken and needed a complete dismantling. When Ron Paul won only a handful of delegates, won only 3% in the Alabama primary, and won only three (3) votes at the Maytown Baptist precinct (mine, my daughter’s and my wife’s— my son’s vote was at the absentee box), I began to feel that the Ron Paul effort was a waste of our energy.
When the Paul for President campaign horded $5 million to promote post-election causes, some of us who contributed felt thrown aside and were less-than-happy. But time has proven that the Ron Paul for President campaign had an effect far beyond the 2008 Republican primaries. So far, what is the legacy of the Ron Paul campaign? For starters, let me mention four:

Tea Party Speech in Montgomery, AL

This past Wednesday, millions of Americans attended Tea Party rallies across these United States. The seed of these protest rallies was the Ron Paul movement from 2008, the most vocal effort against big government in years. While Ron Paul did not sell to the masses of conservatives, the message that government is bloated and out-of-control is resonating with average citizens in all fifty states.

So we had a tea party. Now what?

I was honored to be invited to speak at the Raleigh, North Carolina Tax Day Tea Party Wednesday evening. I’m a poor judge of crowds, but estimates ranged from 2,000 to 7,000 from various sources — the east lawn of the old capitol downtown was completely full.

This event was the perfect opportunity to capture the transpartisan frustration surrounding our economic malaise, and the immense conflicts of interest that drive government efforts at “recovery.”

Chris Martenson recently explained the root of our shared frustrations. America is literally being looted:
