Rush Limbaugh

Does Limbaugh Speak for the GOP?

See Video

All of Rush’s dearest dreams are coming true as the leader of the free world is pushing Rush to even greater prominence by insinuating that he’s the voice of the GOP. Personally, I hope this is proven to be untrue. If Rush is truly speaking for the GOP, then I fear that the future for the Republican Party may be a great deal too much like its past.

New Year Predictions by the UL Staff

John Killian

National
* Barack Obama will realize that Congress is not ready to go along with his progressive agenda. Many Southern and rural Midwestern Democrats were elected as pro-life conservative Democrats. Hence, his Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) will never see the light of day.
* With nervousness on the economy, Obama will not push for Nationalized Health Care. You will see some adding around the edges, but no major increases in federal programs. Obama’s advisers will warn him about the effect of more spending and especially, more taxes on our fragile economy.

Eugene Robinson: Pat Robertson A “Demented Old Man”

On Keith Olbermann’s program, Eugene Robinson correctly observes Pat Robertson to be a demented old man.

Rush Limbaugh Explains Heart Problems

During a press conference, Rush Limbaugh explains his heart problems and why he is confident in the American health care system.

Rush Limbaugh’s Friendly “Fascism”

Jim Armstrong corrects Rush Limbaugh’s misuse of the term “fascism” in a letter to the editor of Dayton Daily News. Mr. Armstrong writes:

While I’m one who doesn’t listen to Rush Limbaugh very often, I have to take exception to what his defender said in his letter to the editor (“Limbaugh critics fear his threat to liberalism,” May 4). He lumped socialists, communists and fascists together as liberals.

Rush Limbaugh = Biff Tannen

David Frum, Canadian born speechwriter for former President George W. Bush, has written a piece for Newsweek attacking Rush Limbaugh and arguing that his presence impedes a Republican electoral rebirth.

One passage in his article in particular got me thinking:

On the one side, the president of the United States: soft-spoken and conciliatory, never angry, always invoking the recession and its victims. This president invokes the language of “responsibility,” and in his own life seems to epitomize that ideal: He is physically honed and disciplined, his worst vice an occasional cigarette. He is at the same time an apparently devoted husband and father. Unsurprisingly, women voters trust and admire him.

Michael Steele Says Rush Talk “A Distraction”

In my view, Michael Steele comes across more articulate in this appearance than in his other recent appearances. Perhaps he feels more comfortable around Sean Hannity than D.L. Hughley.

Rush Limbaugh, Democratic Socialist

George Packer elaborates in the New Yorker about the parallels between today’s Republican Party and the Democratic Socialists during the 1980s:

Rush Limbaugh: Champion of Big, Powerful Government

To those “conservatives” who look to Rush Limbaugh as a spokesman for the cause of limited, constitutional government, this should silence any doubts as to where Rush stands when it comes to big government. His rant just about sums up everything that is wrong with what the “conservative” movement has become especially during the eight years of the Bush Administration (but clearly getting underway with the “Gingrich Revolution”). The so-called conservative movement is dead, and anyone who wants to understand why would do well to read Rush’s actual words here. I don’t think he was joking at all when he said, “It’s going to be a bigger, more powerful, stronger government — and we’re going to turn it against the left in ways they could have never imagined.”

Meeting Governor Mark Sanford

One of the politicans that United Liberty writers consistently speak positively about is the Governor of South Carolina, Mark Sanford.  As one of the newest members of the Alabama Republican State Executive Committee, I had the opportunity to attend a party dinner in Montgomery and the privilege to meet the key-note speaker, Governor Sanford.

There have been assertions from Democrats and Republicans alike that Rush Limbaugh is the current voice of the GOP, but I expressed to Governor Sanford that I disagree.  It is my hope that true, small-government fiscal conservatives such as Mark Sanford will be the prevailing voice now and in the years to come.
