Rick Warren

New Year Predictions by the UL Staff

John Killian

National
* Barack Obama will realize that Congress is not ready to go along with his progressive agenda. Many Southern and rural Midwestern Democrats were elected as pro-life conservative Democrats. Hence, his Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) will never see the light of day.
* With nervousness on the economy, Obama will not push for Nationalized Health Care. You will see some adding around the edges, but no major increases in federal programs. Obama’s advisers will warn him about the effect of more spending and especially, more taxes on our fragile economy.

Rick Warren’s Inaugural Prayer

See Video

Worth watching, in case you missed it.

A look through the YouTube comments for this video revealed many people upset that any preacher was praying during a presidential inauguration. Does this break with the secular society that Thomas Jefferson envisioned? Should inaugurations be godless events? I’m indifferent but I’d like to see readers’ views on the matter. Feel free to leave comments.

Blago is Going to Appoint Senate Seat Anyway

Will the Democrats fight amongst themselves this close to the inauguration? I expect that we will continue to hear less on this story - and more of the Rick Warren daytime TV drama.

CHICAGO (AFP) — The corruption-tainted governor of Illinois was expected to appoint a replacement Tuesday to the senate seat of president-elect Barack Obama, a source close to the governor told AFP.

A defiant Rod Blagojevich, who is accused of trying to sell the seat to the highest bidder, was expected to name former Illinois attorney general Roland Burris, 71, to the seat, the source said on condition of anonymity.

Who are the Real Bigots?

I have shifted between anger and humor at the recent outcry from liberals concerning the invitation issued by President-elect Obama to Pastor Rick Warren to lead in prayer at the Obama inauguration. Consider that Presidents of both parties traditionally asked Evangelist Billy Graham to lead in prayer at their respective inaugurations. Graham was long considered America’s Pastor and one might wonder if Rick Warren might be assuming that same role.

Rachel Maddow None Too Pleased With Obama

Goodness gracious, first Islamophobia and now Christophobia. People wouldn’t be wary of these religions if they weren’t espousing intolerance while demanding tolerance from others.

The Three McCains

Understanding Senator John McCain is no easy task. Senator McCain was elected to the US House of Representatives and four years later moved up to the US Senate. When McCain was first elected, I dealt with some active conservatives from Arizona who knew McCain. These people were enamored with the Senator and told me to watch for him, further stating that John McCain was a conservative leader who would follow in the footsteps of Ronald Reagan.

Note with me the three phases in the career of Senator John McCain.

Barr on Glenn Beck Again- 8/28

Wearing a t-shirt with the phrase infamously coined by  Barack Obama, “Bitter typical white person clinging to God and my guns”, conservative talk show host, Glenn Beck, once again gave Libertarian Presidential nominee, Congressman Bob Barr, a full hour on Thursday evening.  Like most of America, Glenn is unsure of who to vote for in November, but is also concerned about “throwing his vote away” if he votes third party.  Bob does an excellent job of presenting the case that voting for McCain or Obama is truly a wasted vote and that his message of smaller government, tax reform and personal liberty is what the country needs and what most voters identify with.

In this first video, Glenn asks Bob to answer the questions posed by pastor Rick Warren to McCain and Obama during the Saddleback Debate. They discuss the Russia/Georgia conflict and the finer aspects of Bob’s foreign policy stance, the current Supreme Court Justices, the definition of “rich”, and why higher taxes hurt the poorest of Americans.

Part two continues with tax reform, when military action should be used, global warming and energy independence.
