Podcast: Discussing Prominent Issues Facing The Nation With Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson
Welcome Instapundit readers!
In a special podcast, Jason and Brett interview former governor of New Mexico, Gary Johnson to discuss the Our America Initiative political advocacy committee, as well as the issues facing our nation, and what he sees as solutions.
Earlier this year, former Governor Johnson embarked on two new journeys, writing The Seven Principles of Good Government and serving as the honorary chairman of the Our America Initiative. In the interview, Johnson discusses the economy, health care, civil liberties, the War on Drugs, the War on Terror, the environment, and his ample use of the veto pen.
We would like to once again thank Governor Johnson, as well Sue Winchester, the Media Relations Representative for the Our America Initiative.
You can download the podcast here (35 minutes/32 MB). The always lovely Aimee Allen graces us with “Silence is Violence” in the music that opens the interview.
Podcast: House Health Care Reform, 3rd Quarter GDP, Oathkeepers, Guest: Adam Kokesh
Jason and Brett were joined by Chris Moody as they interviewed Adam Kokesh, a candidate for U.S. Congress in New Mexico’s 3rd district.
After interviewing Adam, all four discuss these issues:
- Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi unveils the newest health care reform legislation.
- 3rd quarter GDP numbers released, showing a 3.5% increase.
- An open discussion on Oathkeepers.
- Also, there was a “hit & run” discussion of the likelihood of Barack Obama’s Presidency only lasting one term and the prospects for 2012’s Republican Presidential candidates.
You can download the podcast here (almost 66 minutes/60 MB). The intro music is “Jammin’” by Bob Marley.

Adam Kokesh discusses his campaign on Freedom Watch
Adam Kokesh, a friend of United Liberty and Republican candidate for New Mexico’s Third Congressional District, was featured recently on Freedom Watch with Judge Andrew Napolitano to discuss his campaign in the aftermath of Scott Brown’s win in Massachusetts:
Phantom zip codes receive “stimulus” funding
You may have thought that stimulus fraud ended with phantom congressional districts. If so, you thought wrong as it turns out that several non-existent zip codes received millions in “stimulus” funding:
[E]xamination of the latest recovery.gov report for New Mexico shows hundreds of thousands of dollars sent to and credited with creating jobs in zip codes that do not exist in New Mexico or anywhere else. Moreover, funds reported as being spent in New Mexico were given zip codes corresponding to areas in Washington and Oregon.
The recovery.gov site reports that $373,874 was spent in zip code 97052. Unfortunately, this expenditure created zip jobs. But $36,218 was credited with creating 5 jobs in zip code 87258. A cool hundred grand went into zip code 86705, but didn’t result in even one person finding work.
None of these zip codes exist in New Mexico, or anywhere else, for that matter.
The recovery.gov report also credits New Mexico with $131,139, though the zip codes receiving these funds (but creating no jobs) are in fact located in DuPont, Washington, Richland, Washington, and Gales Creek, Oregon.
Adam Kokesh profiled by Washington Independent
Over at the Washington Independent, Dave Weigel has put up a great profile of Adam Kokesh, who is running for Congress in New Mexico’s Third Congressional District:
“The ground has really shifted away from the neocon agenda,” Kokesh told TWI during a break in his campaign schedule. “There was no influx of young people getting into the Republican Party to support John McCain. By contrast, Ron Paul brought a huge number of young people into the Republican Party. It’s really exciting to see that happening again with my campaign.”
Gary Johnson Weighs In On Health Care Reform
In a press release today, Gary Johnson, former New Mexico governor and honorary chairman of the recently launched Our America Initiative, weighed in on the health care reform. He had this to say:
There seems to be enormous pressure to resolve this matter quickly regardless of the ramifications. The proposed health care plan could have long lasting detrimental consequences to our economic health. We don’t need more of a deficit –we need less of one. I urge the Senate to take the time needed to seriously review these potential concerns and not rush to pass this faulty plan.
He further commented, stating that, along with most of us in the liberty movement, his support lies with free-market reforms that promote private sector management of health care. As many agree, the system is in need of repair, he noted that reform should focus on “affordability, portability, and control by the individual rather than government or an employer.”

No Need to Vote- Obama Already Declared Winner
Well, we’ll all sleep better now. No need to fret about who will emerge victorious this coming Tuesday. A bi-monthly New Mexico newspaper had decided to declare the winner one week before voters even go to the poll. Since the New Mexico Sun News won’t be published again until long after the election results are in, in this recent addition the editor took a step of faith and decided to trust the recent polls and predict Senator Barack Obama as the next President.
Granted, this prediction wasn’t too much of a leap, but I’m sure he’s hoping he hasn’t pulled another Dewey/Truman situation.
