Author and Director Eugene Jarecki appears on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, talking about his latest book The American Way of War, his film Why We Fight, and the reaction of John McCain’s campaign staff to the Senator’s candid interview in that film. We need more mainstream media discussion of the problems that have arisen due to the industrial complex that has formed around our permanent army/navy/airforce.

Cramer and Scarborough Trounce Jon Stewart

Now, Jon Stewart has targeted Obama, so Scarborough and Cramer’s remarks about him are not on the whole true. However, their criticism of his intellectual cowardice and opportunism are totally warranted. Stewart is not the twenty first century Mark Twain, as I have heard him called. He’s another “gotcha” media guy who likes to snap people. He tends to insult people and exercise vomit-inducing holier-than-thou sarcasm instead of really having a debate of ideas. In addition, aside from liking to make fun of the right wing of the political spectrum and throw softball questions at left-wing guests, he hasn’t presented his core beliefs or values to us.

Following is a clip of Morning Joe on MSNBC, wherein Joe Scarborough has on two of my favorite political commentators: Christopher Hitchens and Pat Buchanan. Hitchens takes apart the idiotic US anti-drug policy in regards to how it is applied in Afghanistan. He later goes on to criticize Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s use of sex appeal.
