Katie Couric

Did Palin Make a Difference for McCain?

Governor Palin has received fairly favorable reviews so far regarding her first, and only, debate appearance as the Republican VP Nominee.  Katie Couric mentioned after the debate ended that the most remarkable thing was that Sarah didn’t embarrass herself, a habit Mrs. Palin has developed in subsequent interviews.  But other critics are being more generous and a majority group of undecided voters told pollster Frank Luntz that they were impressed and pleased with Sarah’s performance.

From Exuberance to Skepticism

A quiet scattering of Republicans have begun to express concern about the ability of the party “messiah”, Sarah Palin, to counter the one major sticking criticism - her lack of knowledge of policy issues or at least the ability to articulate them effectively when the spotlight is on. Conservative columnist Kathleen Parker has publicly said Palin should step aside. National Review editor Kathryn Jean Lopez last friday, while not going as far as Kathleen, did express sympathy to the idea and said in response to Palin, “something’s gotta change.”

The New Media

To our faithful readers, we apologize for not updating since Tuesday. We’re all in various modes of travel back to our homes and trying to “recover” from a busy and exciting Rally for the Republic.

This morning, I’m visiting family in Plano, TX, doing something I rarely, rarely do- watch the “old media” on television. While listening to Meredith Vieira, of NBC’s Today Show, interview Katie Couric and Brian Williams on the floor of the Republican Convention in St. Paul, I was shocked by something I heard Katie say-

What is the media? You can’t paint it in the broad stroke you used to. It includes the thousands and thousands of bloggers and partisan reporters.
