Guantanamo

Torturous Terms of Art

The matter of torture has been discussed over the past several years in connection with its use as a “tool” in the “Global War on Terror” or the “Overseas Contingency Operation” as it has now been called. Dick Cheney has been recently making rounds in an attempt to salvage some credibility and to fuel the partisan fire.

Bush: Worst Ever or Just Misunderstood?

Telegraph has an article up that serves as a wrap-up analysis of the Bush presidency on the eve of his departure. There was one paragraph that really stood out:

Peter Feaver, who served as special adviser for strategic planning on Bush’s White House National Security Council, agrees: “He’s had a once-in-a-century natural disaster, Hurricane Katrina, a once in a history of the Republic terrorist attack and he’s had a once-in-a-century financial crisis. Any one of those would be a pivotal moment. To have three is extraordinary.”

9: The number of inmate deaths at Guantanamo Bay.

6: The number of those deaths suspected to be suicides.

The More Things Change

Here is the situation: A man in Oklahoma City gets pulled over by the police. Reason? He has a sign on the back of his truck that reads “Abort Obama, not the Unborn.” The police tell the man that this sign could be construed to be threatening the president’s life!

Wait a minute… I thought all abortion does is remove a blob of tissue from a woman’s uterus. Seems like the Oklahoma City Police know better… But I digress.

The police confiscate the sign and then call the Secret Service, who show up at the man’s home and search it to make sure he wasn’t a part of some “hate group.” After politely interviewing the man for 30 minutes, the Secret Service leaves.

And the crickets start chirping from the Left.
