Bay Area Mom Challenges the Establishment
As a candidate for school board in the Bay Area suburb of Hayward, Maribel Heredia may not seem like a figure of national importance. However, Heredia’s presence in the Hayward school board race is a demonstration of the push for change that has taken the country by storm.
Hope and Change!!!: House passes PATRIOT Act renewal
A day after the the Senate passed (by a voice vote, no recorded vote was taken) renewal of provisions of the PATRIOT Act that were set to expire on Sunday, the House followed suite by passing the Bill of Rights gutting legislation by a vote of 315 to 97:
Many liberals in the House opposed the controversial act, saying it tramps Constitutional protections and civil liberties.
Congress adopted the Patriot Act shortly after September 11th.
Many lawmakers wanted to rewrite or even kill some of the most controversial provisions in the act. But Congressional leaders didn’t have the appetite for a major battle with the economy and health care reform swinging in the balance.
Many of the renewed provisions involve wiretaps and eavesdropping measures.
The Senate ok’d the package earlier this week. President Obama is expected to sign the bill into law.
Just to make sure I’m reading this right, Democrats are too busy other assaults on individual liberty, free markets, the Constitution and loading up debt on the next generation by trying to pass ObamaCare and endless “stimulus” bills to put up a fight on civil liberties that they claim to be defenders of. Right? Got it.
Please, don’t let our liberties stand in the way of your agenda.
The More Things Change
Here is the situation: A man in Oklahoma City gets pulled over by the police. Reason? He has a sign on the back of his truck that reads “Abort Obama, not the Unborn.” The police tell the man that this sign could be construed to be threatening the president’s life!
Wait a minute… I thought all abortion does is remove a blob of tissue from a woman’s uterus. Seems like the Oklahoma City Police know better… But I digress.
The police confiscate the sign and then call the Secret Service, who show up at the man’s home and search it to make sure he wasn’t a part of some “hate group.” After politely interviewing the man for 30 minutes, the Secret Service leaves.
And the crickets start chirping from the Left.
The Senator From Massachusetts
From the floor debate in the Senate on February 7 regarding the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act:
Incidentally, let me share with a few of my colleagues why this is sort of this old ideology versus new. The Senator talked about the tired ideology of the past. What is it? Well, I think today Michael Steele, the new chairman of the Republican National Committee, made a statement on behalf of the Republican Party. He said:
For the last 2 weeks, we have been trying to force a massive spending bill through Congress under the guise of economic relief.
Well, we are having votes. This is a democracy. We are not forcing anything. We are trying to get the job done because there is an urgency to getting it done.
But then he says:
Obama Voters Already Disappointed
Over at Facebook, a group has been created called “I Bet I Can Find 1,000,000 People Sorry They Voted for Obama.” 20 days before Barack Obama has even been inaugurated as the 44th President of the United States, people are already disappointed. This is what happens when a presidential candidate runs a campaign in which he promises the moon and the stars. Alas, that may be what you have to do to win nowadays.
Here is the group’s description:
Cast your vote in a moment of Hope for Change and then realize you got the same old gay-hating corporate shill?
A True Nightmare: Obama Catering to Neo-cons
Max Boot, a contributing editor of the fervently neoconservative publication The Weekly Standard and senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations has stated what progressives and libertarians dread most, that Obama is warming up nicely to neoconservatives in Washington. Some might contend that his appointments thus far have gained more approval from the statist right than from his own party. Maxx Boot in his own words regarding the matter-
