Campaign for Liberty Staffer Questioned by TSA for Carrying Cash

See Video

Campaign for Liberty staffer, Steve Bierfeldt, tells his story about being detained by the TSA and police because of the amount of cash he was carrying on him, and why the MIAC report factored into his decision to tread carefully while answering questions.

Election Day Decisions & Predictions

United Liberty was begun by individuals from a large variation of backgrounds, all having the same goal in mind- the maximizing of individual liberty. We are not a monolithic group, seeing everything through the same eyes, and therefore have different ideas about how to best achieve that goal. All of us began as supporters of the same candidate, but since his name will not be on the ballot in our respective states, we wanted to share who we will be voting for and who we predict will win.

Editor, B J Lawson-

I wish I had an answer, but I’m still undecided :-/

Don’t think I know until I get into the voting booth.
At least I know how I’m voting for Congress…

Contributor, Scott Morris-

The FED’s Role in the Crisis and Bailout

A fairly good and simple explanation of what the Federal Reserve is and the part it played in the current economic crisis and bailout.

The Left has Better Graphic Design

With the exception of the fantastic work done at United Liberty, Campaign for Liberty and other libertarian leaning websites, right leaning websites tend to look horrible.

Take for instance Townhall.com. Townhall, as much as the writing there can often excel in quality, looks terribly corporate and seems more like a giant advertisement than an actual news website (which, to be frank, it probably is). The font of their title has that action movie look that also plagues sites like Powerline.

Then there is the horrible layout to The Daily Caller, Tucker Carlson’s website. Seeing as Carlson is very famous and influential, one would think that he could manage to get a layout that isn’t abhorrent. Instead, it looks more like a PDF version of a cheap tabloid paper like the National Enquirer or the New York Post.

The contrarian would say that, while these websites may not look that great, their content is superior. However, in the world of media, presentation is paramount. Slate, a moderate to left magazine, has some of the best layout of any internet publication. Is it any wonder their readership is in the millions?

C4L staffer causes TSA policy change

Remember Steve Bierfeldt? The Campaign for Liberty employee that was unlawfully detained by TSA in St. Louis because he was carrying a large amount of cash with him. Bierfeldt managed to catch the audio of his experience with TSA with his iPhone.

While being sued by the ACLU, TSA took some time to review its policies and has issued new directives to screeners:

TSA says it issued a management directive in 2007 telling screeners that any evidence of criminal activity discovered during searches “shall be referred to a law enforcement officer for appropriate action.” On. Sept. 1, that directive was revised, emphasizing that “screening may not be conducted to detect evidence of crimes unrelated to transportation security.’’ Indeed, even when illegal drugs are discovered, the policy notes, TSA can inform local law enforcement authorities and ask passengers to wait at screening checkpoints, but TSA officials do not have the authority themselves to detain people suspected of anything unrelated to aviation security.

A second directive this fall specifically addressed the issues raised in the ACLU’s lawsuit, stating that “traveling with large amounts of currency is not illegal,” and that to the extent bulk quantities of cash warrant searching, it is only to further security objectives.

One man with courage makes a majority.

John McCain Starts His Post-Partum PAC

Yes, I’m still thinking about the ‘08 Election. No, I’m not bitter.

John McCain blasted an email out to his list encouraging them to join his new PAC - usually a no-brainer move after any national election these days.

The problem? I don’t think many people are going to be all that excited about it.

Karl Rove: How The GOP Should Make A Comeback

Karl Rove would not have written this article , outlining how the GOP could make a come back if John Mccain had won.

He only makes two good points:

Second, while it’s the responsibility of all, someone must take the lead on training candidates and party leaders and nurturing their focus on ideas. Under its founder, Newt Gingrich, GOPAC once did this. It needs to be revitalized or its original mission taken up by a fresh group.

Automakers Bailout

Campaign for Liberty and Freedom Works are both calling for help in stopping the bailout of U S automakers using funds from TARP.

From John Tate, Executive Director of Campaign for Liberty-

After the Paulson $700 billion bailout package passed in early October, we knew it was only a matter of time before Congress moved to use your money yet again to bail out a struggling industry.
