New Central Command Leader Petraeus Supports Talks With Taliban

General Petraeus, who is just about to take over the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) this week after a nearly two year stint overseeing “the surge” in Iraq, favors stepping up reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan with insurgent remnents of the Taliban. While we can safely assume a President Obama would support this measure if he had political cover from typically hard-nosed generals, how would a President McCain respond? The answer is he would support it, but he also considently ridicules anyone who wants to talk with enemy heads of state as “giving legitimacy” to them as leaders or their beliefs. Talking with the Taliban, a brutal former regime that actively harbored terrorists, would go completely against the doctrine President Bush publically reinforced for years.

Chuck Hagel is a Good Choice for Secretary of Defense

Barring a miracle of epic proportions, less than one week from now the nation will choose Sen. Barack Obama as the next President of the United States. But who will this young Senator choose to serve in his cabinet? His choice for Secretaries of State, Defense and Treasury are key decisions that will shape the “Obama Doctrine” and determine whether he governs as a principled leftist, pragmatic leftist, or centrist. While not a perfect candidate, of the names floated thus far, I believe Republican Senator, Chuck Hagel would make the best Secretary of Defense in an Obama Administration.

Court Rules Citizens Do NOT Have Standing to Sue to Enforce Constitution

From Richard Viguerie -

In a disturbing case with ominous implications for our democratic rights, U.S. Judge R. Barclay Surrick granted a motion by Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee to dismiss a challenge to Obama’s constitutional qualifications to run for President on grounds that a mere citizen does not have legal standing to sue.

Philip Berg, a Democrat and former Assistant Attorney General for Pennsylvania, brought suit alleging that under the Natural Born Citizen Clause of the U.S. Constitution, Obama is ineligible to be President.

Judge Surrick states that citizens may not sue to enforce the Constitution without statutory authorization from Congress.

No Need to Vote- Obama Already Declared Winner

Well, we’ll all sleep better now.  No need to fret about who will emerge victorious this coming Tuesday.  A bi-monthly New Mexico newspaper had decided to declare the winner one week before voters even go to the poll.  Since the New Mexico Sun News won’t be published again until long after the election results are in, in this recent addition the editor took a step of faith and decided to trust the recent polls and predict Senator Barack Obama as the next President.

Granted, this prediction wasn’t too much of a leap, but I’m sure he’s hoping he hasn’t pulled another Dewey/Truman situation.

America 2008-2012: Obama, You Want it? You Can Have It

Thats right. Barack Obama, I oppose most of what you stand for, especially your economic policies. Unless you are talking about Iraq or civil liberties I really do not find any of your policy stances likable, and even then I generally do not approve of your approach to the problems. You have taken a stand against upper middle class families who have worked their way to the top, yet you also stand with the various corporate interests.

Opie, Andy and the Fonz Voting for Obama?

See Video

I don’t think this video by Ron Howard will actually convince anyone to vote for Barack Obama, but it’s worth watching for purely entertainment purposes.  Babyboomers, welcome to a trip down memory lane.

Bush’s Version of Socialism

Unfortunately this could not be anymore true. The very definition of socialism is collective ownership of the means of productions. While the Republicans scream about Obama being “socialist” they approved of Bush taking ownership of a wide range of financial institutions. When the government and big banks join forces there can only be tyranny. H/T to Allvoices for graphic.

Al-Qaida Website Supports McCain

In holding with the strategy Osama bin Laden has pushed for over a decade in his war against the United States an Al-Qaida linked website is reportedly choosing John McCain over Barack Obama for President because he will “continue the failed policies of Bush”.

WASHINGTON – Al-Qaida supporters suggested in a Web site message this week they would welcome a pre-election terror attack on the U.S. as a way to usher in a McCain presidency.

Barr Talks About the Bailout on Fox News

See Video

Barr speaks out against the market distortion caused by the massive bailout, specifically mentioning the effect on inflation and home values.

Barr’s solution would include having a true business person as the head of the Treasury, limiting, limiting political interference in the economy, cutting non-essential federal spending, and revamping the tax system.

Any Hope Left for McCain?

While the Mainstream Media has all but anointed Barack Obama as the next president, John McCain and Sarah Palin continue campaigning, albeit not too effectively. With polls consistently showing Obama leading McCain, and the election just over three weeks away, one wonders if McCain has any hopes of winning.

I believe that McCain lost a great opportunity. When the stock market dramatically fell, the approval ratings of the current Administration fell with the economic conditions. With the Republican hopes fading, the Bush Administration signed on to a terrible plan to bailout Wall Street investors. Initially, Republican House members opposed the plan, but enough pork was added to an already bloated bill so that the politician spirit ruled the day and these politicians caved and supported the bailout.
