The Neoconservative Progression: An Illustration

One of our readers recently pointed out to us this interesting illustration of the neoconservative timeline and interconnectivity chart that was published about a year ago in the Washington Post. The illustration begins with anti-stalinists leftist influences from the 1920s and progresses to the modern era including organizations such as the American Enterprise Institute and the Project for a New American Century.
You can check out this graphic at the Washington Post.
The WAPO at the same time also published an interesting review on the book They Knew They Were Right: The Rise of the Neocons that is worth reading.

Is API considered a neoconservative think tank? I’ll concede that I’m a fan of a few of the fellows there.
And as aware as I am of how unpopular neoconservatism is, I am a fan of a few of the people on that timeline - notably George Orwell and William F. Buckley, the latter of which I don’t see as a neocon at all. Buckley didn’t seem to advocate military intervention but instead beat down on anti-war critics when the US was at war, which I would attribute to the conservative tendency to defend America against criticism.
As for Ayn Rand’s role on there, Rand cast doubt on the necessity of the Vietnam War and died before we could ever get her thoughts on the war on terrorism. Rand was certainly out there but I wouldn’t cast her as a neoconservative. She didn’t seem particularly hawkish.

To Michael O. Powell:
maybe if you watch this 5 part debate you will know where you stand
Buckley vs Gore Vidal 1968 Republican Convention
Part1

Its like history repeating itself all over again
interestingly enough Vidal was really saying very nice things about Rep. Ron Paul during the Republican primary eventhough the media associated him with the “Left”.
very interesting. reminds me of how Buchanan wrote nice articles about Ralph Nader and how close he is to the “Old Right”
same goes with JFK who was “very right wing conservative” by today’s standards
If you want to learn more then watch Jack Hunter’s piece on Buckley
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ns0NlUgcsY
real eye opener.
Hunter is extremely conservative. Hes a Buchananite Ron Paul supporter
If you still think Buckley was great after watching those eye openers then you may want to reconsider your views
you cant get anyone more neoconservative than Buckley
have a good one
The Vidal video you link to, as well as the Noam Chomsky debate he did, were actually what I was thinking of when I wrote my comments.

yep
try watching the Southernavenger video too
He ripped him a new one
Defending one’s country from criticism is one thing
defending one’s country\s war crimes and atrocities removes your moral ground when your children become at the other end of the food chain
I cannot fathom anything conservative about not criticizing illegal war and occupation, moreover not criticizing massacres and atrocities connected to the name of my people.
That is exactly what would make Stalin proud.
