Congressman Ron Paul, in his most recent Texas Straight Talk column, draws attention to some very important lessons from the recent terrorist attacks on the city of Mumbai in India. India happens to have very draconian laws restricting gun ownership. One of his points is that violent attacks tend to happen in places where guns are not allowed, such as schools, while such aggressive, terrorizing attacks are almost unheard of in places such as gun shows and military bases.

His main point is that the best protection against acts of violence is an armed society. No amount of gun laws will prevent those people who wish to perpetrate violence from obtaining guns, and any government that disarms the people effectively removes any ability to resist tyranny and genocide. He concludes by saying that, especially with the difficult times which lie ahead resulting from the economic downturn, we must be ever vigilant against any attempt to disarm the people.
