It has always seemed apparent to me that on abortion, most Americans are moderate. I think most Americans think some degree of abortion should be available in certain circumstances, but that it should be illegal to perform during the third trimester. I don’t think they agree on the absolutist views of the pro-life and pro-choice activists.

This is the brilliance of Barack Obama’s statement on sexuality during the debate. By saying that it is imperative to express to children that “sexuality is sacred” and that we should not engage in “cavalier activity,” he came across as quite conservative and rational at the same time. John McCain, meanwhile, was huffing and puffing like Al Gore chasing the three little pigs. It’s not included in the below video, but McCain used terms like “pro-abortion” which made him appear radical in contrast with Obama’s call for “common ground.”
