Obama is Anti-2nd Amendment

As a gun-owner and someone who has escaped injury due to private gun ownership at least three times, I pay attention to the voting records of candidates regarding the 2nd Amendment.

I recently wrote about the NRA’s disappointing endorsement of Senator John McCain, in spite of his clear record of being an enemy of the right’s of gun-owners.  A much more logical choice would have been 3rd party candidates Bob Barr or Chuck Baldwin, as an endorsement of Barack Obama would have been equally unthinkable.

Obama has claimed to be a supporter of the 2nd Amendment, but his voting record indicates otherwise.

Illinois State Rifle Association Executive Director, Richard Pearson, has this to say about Senator Obama-

While a state senator, Obama voted for a bill that would ban nearly every hunting rifle, shotgun and target rifle owned by Illinois citizens. That same bill would authorize the state police to raid homes of gun owners to forcibly confiscate banned guns. Obama supported a bill that would shut down law-abiding firearm manufacturers including Springfield Armory, Armalite, Rock River Arms and Les Baer. Obama also voted for a bill that would prohibit law-abiding citizens from purchasing more than one gun per month. While a state senator, Obama voted 4 times against legislation that would allow a homeowner to use a firearm in defense of home and family (Illinois Senate, S.B. 2165, vote 20, 3/25/04).

During an Illinois Senate debate with Alan Keyes, Obama said, “I think it’s a scandal that this president [Bush] did not authorize a renewal of the assault weapons ban.”

Pajamas Media has an interesting article regarding Obama’s tenure as the director of the Joyce Foundation, a non-profit organization that “spent millions creating and supporting anti-gun organizations.”

As a US Senator, Obama voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting (United States Senate, S. 397, vote 217, 7/29/05).

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports this regarding Obama’s view on the DC gun ban-

Obama personally voiced support for the D.C. ban at other times. In February, Leon Harris, a news anchor for the ABC affiliate in Washington, said to Obama: “One other issue that’s of great importance here in the district as well is gun control … but you support the D.C. handgun ban.” Obama’s simple response: “Right.” When Harris added “and you’ve said that it’s constitutional,” Obama again said “right,” and he is clearly seen on tape nodding his head in agreement.

And of course there’s Obama’s now infamous comment made at a private fundraiser in San Francisco, during which he said economic problems had led voters in some small towns to become “bitter” and “cling to guns or religion”.

Despite his recent claims of being in support of gun rights, Obama’s record speaks for itself.  He is no friend to gun-owners, nor a supporter of the 2nd Amendment,  and gun enthusiasts would be wise to remember this come November.

Here’s my favorite quote in defence of the right to bear arms. Please note the use of the word “private” in the following quote:

“Whereas civil rulers, not having their duty to the people duly before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as military forces, which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people are confirmed by the article (The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution) in their right to keep and bear their private arms.” — Tench Coxe, Pennsylvania Federal Gazette on June 18th, 1789

Obama is such a coward. He has voted many times to disarm citizens, but he never once voted to disarm criminals. He voted against a bill to give the death penalty to gang members who murder to add to their gang, but he voted for a bill to ban all guns in Illinois. Politicians claim that disarming citizens will make our streets safer, but those same people will not vote on bills to make it harder for criminals to access guns. The reason we have the second amendment is to hold the government accountable. Obama is afraid that ordinary citizens will strip him of his power if he ever got bad, and I mean bad in the sense like Robert Mugabe, or Omar Al Bashir, or Kim Jong Il. Those are the leaders of Zimbabwe, Sudan, and North Korea. Guns are illegal in all those countries. Obama just does not want to be striped of his power. He even said that he will hold “the reigns of power” in an interview on CNN. Brace yourselves for a hard 4 years.

Guns are illegal in England too. I don’t see your point! There’s also a difference between handgun and assault weapons which is what Obama is opposed to.

First off, you don’t have a Bill of Rights in your country, second, there is no difference between a gun and an assault weapon. The definition of assault is “a violent physical or verbal attack”, which anything from a rock, bat, knife, hand gun can be an assault weapon. You want to ban knives and bats too? Ban these and people will still kill each other with something, until you ban everything, and they’ll simply use their fists. That’s why there is a law to put you behind bars if you kill someone. No matter what it will happen and you can not stop it no matter how big you want your nanny state!!

You’ve just been conditioned to be a week minded slave. Free men are armed, slaves are disarmed. You better wake up now or you will end up like the jews, probably worse.

Gun owners should be responsible for whatever purpose they may have for having such kind of deadly weapon. Laws are there to at least control some abuses. Of course men and women in the military service should also be responsible for the guns and weapons issued to them including the accessories like Trijicon Night Sights, scopes and others. They are suppose to take care of all these and should be use for its purpose.
