We’ve touched on the cost of debt service on our podcasts, but only in context of the next 10 years. As CNBC recently reported, the cost of debt service in 2019 will be $700 billion. That’s significant.

Want to have your eyes opened up? In 2019, the cost of servicing the national debt will equate to around 4 percent of gross domestic product (see below). Take a look at what happens in the following 20 years, and even the longer term outlook. It’s not a pretty sight.
