During debate over legislation that would have required President Barack Obama to begin bringing troops in Afghanistan home by the end of the year, which was overwhelmingly shot down, Rep. John Duncan (R-TN) explained to his colleagues the fiscal and constitutional case for ending military actions in the Graveyard of Empires:

Time for school. Do you think the majority of people in Afghanistan really want the Taliban and Al Queda out. Nope, cause if they did they would do the job themselves. No matter how powerful the oppressor, a large majority of a country’s population working together can get rid of them. Look at the Russian and French revolutions. Look at the anti-Castro crowd in south Florida, they sit in Miami high rises and cry about Castro stealing their country. Buck up, buy a gun, jump a boat go take Cuba back. Same thing happened in Iraq their current leaders lived it up in France crying they were in exile and could someone i.e. the United States go kick that big bully Saddam out so they could have their country back. It’s hard to rape the willing.
