Pelosi: “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it”

As the business community and more public polling shows opposition to ObamaCare, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) tells us, “[W]e have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.”

President Barack Obama made a promise to promote transparency by having negotiations broadcast on C-SPAN. Even though C-SPAN encouraged President Obama and Democratic leaders in Congress to let people see the process, they failed to follow through. Even if they had made good on the promise, certain aspects of ObamaCare are going to be controverisal, such as the individual and employer mandates and breaking the pledge not to tax the middle class.

You don’t hide the process. That’s how you make sausage, not health care policy.

READ THE BILL PELOSI, IF IT WAS YOUR MONEY BEING SPENT, YOU WOULD CHECK IT OUT TWICE. CONGRESS, STAND UP AND STOP BEING A BUNCH OF WIMPS, BULLIED BY THOSE CHICAGO THUGS. WHAT A COUNTRY THIS IS TURNING OUT TO BE, AND WHAT A SHAME THE WHOLE WORLD IS LOOKING DOWN ON US. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROSES!

GANDIA's picture

While I don’t necessarily disagree with you, Gandia, two points; 1. it’s not just a matter of paying for this, it’s a matter of loosing 1/7th of the nation’s free market economy to government socialist control. Who cares if it’s “a bargain buy” when it’s just another step in a direction that can’t be reversed? The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen. And, 2. on your “rest of the world looking down on us” remark, I don’t understand your lament. The world doesn’t dislike America, the political left does. Always has. Always will (unless we become basically little more than the western-most nation of Europe). You’d never know that when listening to the liberal-dominated media. If there’s a point we should become concerned, it’s if the world suddenly all approved of the U.S. That would be a very bad sign.

But, the states are getting a good lesson in leftism with this president and congress. If he is bringing us any “hope”, it’s the hope we don’t soon forget their modus operandi and general disregard for the historical values of this nation and it’s people.

You use a calmer tone than Gandia, but the substance of what you say is just as unglued. Losing “1/7th of the nation’s free market economy to government socialist control?” How? Forget about Pelosi, it’s obvious that you haven’t read the bill. Perhaps you can show us where in the bill there’s a “government takeover” of the health insurance industry. I’ve read it and I don’t see it. Please enlighten me. Be specific.

Gee Jim,

Maybe this bill is a good idea. We should just pass it and then we can find out whats in it.

teeots's picture

Teeots,

Perhaps you should read the bill, which is available for public consumption and has been for quite some time. Then maybe you can show me where the “government takeover” and “death panel” garbage is. I guess it’d be easier to just spout talking points in a bill you’ve never even read. Go figure.

Jim's picture

Jimbo, it is no longer up to a lowly peon such as I to point out the faults and deficiencies of this “legislation”, but rather, it is now up to you right/left Statists to convince me that I should give up my birth and unalienable rights for marxist socialism.

What is it about the proposed oligarchy that you love the most;
1) You won’t have to think for yourself, nor take personal responsibility for such independent thinking?
2) You will be able to follow the herd, in consensus, right up the chute and onto the killing floor of the slaughter house? Again, no thoughts necessary.
3) You have decided that, because you are an incompetent person, everyone else must be incompetent as well, thus someone really needs to protest us from ourselves… right?

When you receive garbage in exchange for your life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, the value of the garbage does not even begin to approach that of the rights handed over.
If you make the above deal (and from your posts, it certainly seems as though you are ready to), then that does but one thing;
Marks you as a fool.

Thus ends the lesson.

Contrarian's picture

So none of you can show me where the “government takeover” or “death panel” stuff is in the bill? That’s what I thought.

Contrarian, your long and rambling string of playground taunts were a lesson, alright. They taught me that you have no idea what you’re talking about. Being cocky about being so ignorant just makes you all the more tragic.

Jim's picture

Jim, you’re stupid. I should leave it at that, but I’ll go on. When our government wants to take control of something by passing legislation to regulate that something, it’s called a government takeover.

By the way, you haven’t read the bill either. If you had, you would find what you’re looking for. Stop spouting the left’s talking points and read something for yourself. You may just learn something. While you’re reading, find me a single poll that shows the American people want this crap that the dems are trying to pass.

Government run health care great for old people and military.
Bad for any other class of citizen.

Anonymous's picture

hmmmm…… and here I always thought creating classes of citizens was unconstitutional.

Thanks for the comment, Tom. It’s clear from your childish remarks that you are among those who will demand others read the bill, then proudly admit that you haven’t done that yourself. Speaking of talking points, since I’ve read the bill and you haven’t, how is it that you are saying you know with certainty what’s in it?

Where’s that darn government takeover I keep hearing about? Anyone?

Jim's picture

Looks like Nancy’s statement hits home with some people.

Let’s just face up to the truth, even though it hurts. Most Americans do not read the legislation passed by Congress, in their name, in it’s entirety. It is only after legislation has been passed and implemented that they see how it has affected their day to day lives and begin to truly understand, “what is in it”.

While I haven’t read the bill, I don’t see the arguing points here. Tom, you say, “When our government wants to take control of something by passing legislation to regulate that something, it’s called a government takeover.”. Which is cute, and sounds great on Glenn Beck and the other Fox news shows.

In reality, the right are the ones who want to pass legislation illegalizing OUR RIGHT to sue a doctor for malpractice. The left want to take that out of the bill.

In reality, you think this is the first time the goverment has passed legislation. And you think it’s always been about money?

- The amount of lead allowed in paint.
- The amound of hormones you can give a cow before slaughter.
- Women’s right to vote.
- Black’s right to vote.
- The intensity of waves allowed to be discharged by cellular towers.

Come on man. Clearly we’ve been in the middle of a government takeover since 1776. My guess is you live in a high state of anxiety most of the time. Don’t worry, soon enough, you’ll get some cheap pills for that.

:)
