Sarah Palin And The Obsession With Minutia, Or Something

I must admit that this is a subject I wanted to stay away from but the continuing “uproar” saddens me. I want to like Sarah Palin but she makes it hard sometimes . At some point she is going to have to stop playing the victim card and act like a big girl.

I heard the Rahm Emanuel “retard” comment before Palin responded to it (I actually agreed with him). But something told me somebody would say something. Somebody would be offended. Somebody would act like a speech Nazi. Somebody would express an opinion that would attack the natural right of free speech.

As a former member of the GOP I can remember getting into debate after debate with “lefty” Statists on the subject of language. I guess because of who I am and how I was brought up I feel like I have a right to speak my mind and if you’re the “political correct” type you can get over it (Being raised in NYC probably contributed a ‘lil as well). I am not offended by anything that comes out of somebody’s pie- hole. Many people say things that alarm me, but being offended is somehow being “hurt” by what is said. Ms. Palin kept referring to her “thick skin” on the campaign trail. Did it somehow disappear?

I’ve already heard other people make the point that Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck use the word “retard” on their shows and Sarah hasn’t criticized them. Blah, blah, that isn’t nearly the issue here. The fact that the “Right” is now acting like the language police leads me to believe I left the GOP at the right time.

Let me create a scenario for dear Sarah and see how she would handle it.

PRQ Corporation is working on a brain implant. The implant is designed to negate the function of an extra chromosome that is present in some people that manifests itself in a mental condition. The implant will actually allow the individuals who have the procedure to live normal lives by everyday societal standards and have complete independence; they will not have to rely on the care of others. The researcher for PRQ Corp. on this project is John Smith. PRQ Corp. admits that without Mr. Smith on this project it can not be accomplished.

John Smith is brilliant! He did his undergrad work at Harvard and his post-grad at MIT. John does have an issue thou: he hates Native Americans. He walks around the workplace referring to them as “redskins”, “scalpers”, “prairie-trash” and other assorted terms. John openly discusses that Native Americans are known drunkards and can not be integrated into our society.

Is John an ignorant man when it comes to this subject? Yes. Would I have a problem with his bosses or co-workers ASKING him to “knock it off”? No.

My next question I would address to Ms. Palin:

Should this man, who has the ability to change countless lives, be forced out of his job for words that eminate from his mouth that you and I do not agree with? Are you willing to sacrifice vital advancements in technology because the sounds coming out of a person’s mouth aren’t pleasing to you? My answer is no. I can not speak for Governor Palin.

Sarah, how can you be surprised by language such as this when the president himself made a joke about the “Special Olympics” on the Tonight Show? The “never let a good crisis go to waste” comment is far more alarming than this.

To make an attempt to get Rahm to step down using this excuse, to me, is pure laziness. It reminds me of the “birthers”. This group is the laziest bunch of morons in the history of American politics. With all the things the president and this government have done that are un- Constitutional you would think they could find an issue that the majority of people could get behind. I call this “Silver Bullet” activism; if we can just find a simple loophole we won’t have to work hard.

This is exactly the tactic Ms. Palin is employing by attacking words. This is an attempt that can set a dangerous precedent. If you do not like the person and think they are doing a poor job use issues and common sense to get the person removed.

Or do you want me to start listing the names of the people on the right whose lives were destroyed by the left for comments they made? Taking the high road may be a longer walk, but the satisfaction of knowing you did it the right way will not keep you awake at night.

Sarah; if you have any further questions give Trent Lott a call.

I concur with this article, and I am a conservative who no longer identifies with the GOP.

I agree with the meat of what you said, but maybe you are missing the point of what is going on. Let me first say that I especially agree with “I want to like Sarah Palin but she makes it hard sometimes”.

Are my issues with the language of the current administration or its aconstitutional (as in amoral) antics? It is the latter. I don’t care about political correctness (and you gave a good example with John Smith). And I am assuming that Sarah, Rush and the others feel the same.

However, the reasons to bring up (and beat into the ground) this whole episode is 1) political correctness is so very important to the “other side” and like you said, they have drummed others out of office over it. 2) We do have a lot of vapid voters out there who will not understand a constitutional problem, but they do get the PC side of things - so what harm is there in promoting it for their sake?

What is wrong with taking the easy fruit as long as that is not all you are doing?
