The 36 times Obama said Americans can keep their health plan

The Obamacare Lie

President Barack Obama is trying to change history on his infamous promise to Americans that they could keep their health plan under his 2010 healthcare reform law, falsely saying that he told the public that “you could keep it if it hasn’t changed since the law passed.”

We documented a handful of instances yesterday showing that President Obama never said that at any point during the 2009/2010 healthcare debate. He didn’t even say it after the bill became law. In fact, he continued to repeat the claim that Americans could keep their coverage under Obamacare. Want more proof? The Washington Free Beacon has put together a video of the 36 times President Obama uttered those words:

Despite the repeated claims from President Obama, the administration has known for more than three years that millions of Americans would lose or see disruptions in their health insurance coverage, thanks to strictly written grandfather regulations and the bureaucratic, one-size-fits-all “minimum benefit” mandates.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters that “communications are challenging” when it comes to relaying the Obamacare message. Right, it’s hard to communicate a message that never existed.

In fact, policy advisors warned President Obama not to make that promise, knowing that a guarantee to Americans that they could keep their coverage was false. They were, however, overruled by political aides, likely from the White House.

Republicans also knew that Obamacare would never live up to the promise that President Obama made. In September 2010, they tried kill the regulations that would cost millions of Americans their health plans, but Senate Democrats stopped them from doing so.

This wasn’t an inability to communicate very important detail; after all, President Obama said in the past that he has “great confidence in [his] ability to sway the American people.” They wittingly left this detail out, and the President unequivocally lied to Americans about Obamacare, and despite the cries from Democrats who are expressing shock that many their constituents are now losing their plans, they didn’t prevent it from happening.
