Lindsey Graham is Ignoring the Constitution in Favor of Party Lines

Lindsey Graham has declared war on the Constitution (on the same day Kim Jong Un declared war on his enemies… hmm…). What’s especially funny is that he couldn’t have chosen a less popular time to do so, as the Constitution — courtesy of #StandwithRand — is trending. With overwhelming support for Rand Paul’s filibuster coming from conservatives, libertarians, and even many Democrats; Graham, joined by John McCain, has decided that the possibility of the government killing Americans on American soil without due process is a non-issue.
Graham told POLITICO:
“I do mind our party taking a position completely different than we had with President Bush. I didn’t hear any of these people say anything during the Bush administration. Where were they? I just think it’s politics. I think it’s creating a straw man, creating a situation that doesn’t exist.”
First of all, let’s look at the issue of droning under President Bush. Not once did Senator Paul praise President Bush during his filibuster. Unlike his colleague, Senator Graham, Paul is able to look at an issue based on constitutionality instead of on which political party is at stake. If Senator Graham cared to remember those “good old days”, he might remember the huge anti-war movement that arose during Bush’s War on Terror. Much of that movement was directed at tactics such as waterboarding and use of drones, but the movement was against a Republican president. As a party-line opportunist, I guess it’s not all that surprising that there’s a bit of a memory gap for the senator.
Bad policy conducted by Republicans is no less destructive than bad policy conducted by Democrats. Just because you, Senator Graham, were blind to President Bush’s bad policies — after all, he was a Republican so he certainly couldn’t have done anything wrong — doesn’t mean that Senator Paul should be blind to those same bad policies under President Obama.
Second, Senator Graham wants to know “where they were” during the Bush administration. Rand Paul’s father, Ron Paul (remember him?) was very vocally against Bush’s use of drones. None of Wednesday’s first three champions of freedom — Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Ted Cruz — were in office at that time. And who helped them get elected? Oh yeah. Ron Paul. Ron Paul helped recruit high-caliber defenders of the Constitution so that the next time around, he wouldn’t stand alone on the right side of the aisle.
One more thing — is Rand Paul creating a straw man? Is he really? If Graham had bothered to listen to even 20 minutes of Senator Paul’s 13 hour speech on the matter, he would know the point that Paul was trying to make: It’s unlikely that President Obama is actually going to kill noncombatant Americans on American soil, but that doesn’t mean that we should let the matter go. The question isn’t whether or not Obama WILL do it – it’s if he CAN. It’s a constitutional issue, not a partisan issue.
I mean, honestly, Senator Paul said the phrase “noncombatant American on American soil” so many times that it is permanent branded into my brain. But that is a small price to pay for having had the opportunity to hear what I consider to be the most incredible defense of the Constitution to be spoken in my lifetime.
Meanwhile, Senator Graham is so stuck on the idea that the President has to have the right to conduct war wherever, on whomever, and in whatever way that he sees fit that he has completely forgotten that Americans have a right to due process. And that is a fundamental right that we won’t let go quietly.
Senator Graham, since you seem so intent on making America out to be a battlefield, you just wait until your next re-election. Your constituents who believe in the Constitution will give you the political battlefield of your career.

Senator Grahm does not seem to realize that the Citizenry did not have the same level of fear of Bush as they do with Obama…The people do not trust him to keep his word or act in the best interest of the people. Obama’s perceived and actual stand with muslim Countries has made us wary of him…his dictatorial policies and Chicago style thuggery in the White House is foreign to the American People…He has said one thing and then done the opposite on so many occasions that his credibility is non-existent at this point. I do not ever remember this level of fear and distrust with any other administration in my 75 years on this planet. Senators Graham and McCain need to understand that the people are not stupid and they see through the lies and cover ups from Obama and we also see the DO NOTHING CONGRESS TAKING NO ACTION TO STOP HIM…Obama makes nothing “Perfectly clear”…he muddies the water with his constant jibberish and double speak….IN SHORT SENATORS….THE PEOPLE DO NOT TRUST THIS PRESIDENT!!!

Senators Graham and McCain need to re-read (and perhaps carefully study) the oath they each took to uphold the Constitution. They have taken this oath repeatedly, as commissioned military officers and as politicians, but apparently it has become mere words to them without real meaning. To demand an answer from our national government, as Senator Paul did through his filibuster, whether it had the authority to kill an American citizen on American soil through the use of a drone was to take that oath seriously and to take a principled and courageous stand to uphold our civil rights. It was not political grandstanding or a moot question as Graham and McCain would have us believe. Rather, it was a genuine issue under our 5th and 14th Amendment due-process rights as American citizens that the Obama Administration had not answered and resolved to our collective satisfaction. Why else would Democrat senators such as Ron Wyden from Oregon join Senator Paul in demanding an answer? We need more senators such as Rand Paul, and fewer of the ilk of Graham or McCain.

Considering members of Congress have been shredding the Constitution for years. Graham gets no support from me. I consider the majority of long term congress to be traitors to the American people. If not traitors, at best they have been bought by various money people years ago. So bribery charges should be added.. Like one poster said: They should wear their sponsors colors like NASCAR drivers do.

The Constitution is only as great as the people that defend it w/voice and then blood if need be,for all peoples’ rights within America’s boundries. For those people that do not…they need to leave right now because they ARE our enemy.That includes Graham and McCain and any other politicians that have decided they’d rather “Tread on Me.” Go run for office in some communist country…you’d feel better about yourselves and find a few that would agree with your communist thinking ways.
He is an old man that has not realized the time has come for politicians to take their oath of office seriously. The people are really starting to see what this congress, as well as others, really stand for. It is for party or self interest. “We the people” have decided that if you can’t do the jobs you were elected to do, then leave. We have worked to hard for what we have, (including our freedoms, inherited from our forefathers) to give them up so you can do what you will. You are all getting your vacations, well we want ours. We don’t want to give them up to some one that is here illegally, or won’t get off their duff to work for it. I don’t mind people that need a hand up, but I do mind people looking for a handout. So as far as I’m concerned you can all jump off of a bridge. Until you get off your high horse and abide by the oath you took to defend the constitution and america, your words have no meaning to me.
Graham is a hick sissy senator from south carolina which tried to secede twice from the Union, once before the Civil War! McCain is absolutely insane and note well he never served in a DECLARED WAR, only the criminally insane undeclared war in NAM where he was killing people with bombs. McCain, Graham, Lieberman, Inhofe, all working for the Israelis, Israeli Senators. Like the devil writhing in holy water, the Rand Paul speech, the speech of an honest man, rubbed them the wrong way. Rand showed them the power of Truth vs. stupidity.
wow I had something to say but after reading the others they took my say right out of my mouth… I still would love oversight to check out “holyland foundation files” that sent millions of our dollars to the enemy that is cost Americans life’s.. daily and under Green/blue killings which both speaker and graham held them up and now Benghazi
