5 Reasons Why You Might Want to Vote for Gary Johnson

Gary Johnson

Note: This is part three of a three-part series covering some reasons that a voter may choose to support a specific presidential candidate. Part 1 for Mitt Romney is available here, and part 2 for Barack Obama is available here.

You might not know it by watching the talking heads on the news, but there are actually more candidates on the presidential ballot this year than just Romney and Obama. This year the Libertarian Party will have Gary Johnson on the ballot.

Like the other parties, the Libertarians don’t always get excellent candidates on their ballots, but Gary Johnson is actually an excellent candidate for their platform. He’s a former (Republican) governor of New Mexico with an excellent track record for cutting unnecessary layers of government. Like the other candidates, there are pros and cons for supporting Johnson. Here are a few reasons you might want to support Johnson in 2012.

You like freedom and want more of it.

When it comes to individual liberty, there’s no question at all who the best candidate on the ballot is. Johnson is a perfect example of the Libertarian’s stance on individual liberty, and there’s little doubt that he’d advance individual liberty if he were president.

You believe we need a balanced federal budget.

When the people in Washing talk about cutting spending, they are usually talking about cutting the rate at which we increase spending. Few people from either of the two major parties care about actually cutting spending. Johnson has been very direct about eliminating the federal deficit.

You’re a Republican that doesn’t like Romney.

Maybe you don’t trust a Massachusetts moderate. Maybe you don’t like the way he’s changed his views over the years. Maybe you don’t like his religion. Whatever the reason, if you want a candidate that supports the fiscal policy that the GOP is supposed to embrace, Johnson could be the guy for you.

You’re a Democrat that doesn’t like Obama.

If you’re not that crazy about Obama and the job he is (or isn’t) doing, but you don’t like Romney because of social issues, Johnson is probably worth considering. You won’t agree with everything, but you’ll know exactly where he stands on all of it.

You think Johnson is the right guy for the job.

Like with Obama and Romney, if you think Johnson is the right guy for the job, you should vote for him. Never mind the “lesser of the evils” argument you’re sure to hear. Never mind that Johnson will likely not win. Never mind the people who say you’re supporting Obama (or Romney) by supporting Johnson. If you believe a candidate – any candidate – is the right person for the job, that’s the candidate that should get your vote, no matter what anyone else has to say about it.

He has my vote come November.

Me too. Will never vote for Dems or Repubs. Too bad Ron Paul flamed out. But Gary is it for me.

I agree wholeheartedly with this article. Gary Johnson 2012!

For the past 37 years I have voted for the lesser of two evils. This year I am voting for the person I feel is the best candidate and that is Gary Johnson. I am only wasting my vote if I vote for candidates I do not like, or don’t vote at all.

Gary Johnson got rooked by not being allowed into anymore than two Republican debates. If he isn’t allowed into any of the fall presidential (candidate) debates, all of those people who plan to vote for president get rooked.

Governor (former, New Mexico) Johnson is a highly credible candidate who deserves to be on the dais of those debates. Support the petition to get him and Jill Stein, the Green Party’s candidate for president, into the debates. As the man himself says, “Be Libertarian” with him, at least this one time.

Hope Gary Johnson does well in the Leadville 100!
Wish we were there to cheer on the only Presidential candidate in the race!

Go Gary! Fighting for our Liberty!!

You know who won’t vote for Gary Johnson? The people that are in denial about where we are headed as a nation as we are stripped of our freedoms and our money. The people that are willing to be deprived of everything they have because the government told them it was necessary. The people that still believe Obama represents change; and the people that believe the Romney is different from Obama. Educate your friends, family, and neighbors. Do what you can. Then we can at least hope for a real change.

Hello

What could help Gary is if and when people discover a write in will not be counted unless the canidate requests to be written in. At least Gray will be on the ballet. I checked with my local election board and in NYS unless a request is filled by 10/15/12 the vote may not count I will call again and see if there is anything in writing to the truthfullness of what I was told at my local election board. Mr. Johnson is close to DR.Ron Paul in his platform and is more to my liking then either Mittens or OBamBA
Peace to all

Gary Johnson is certainly the man America needs right now. Every effort must be made to get the media to recognize who he is. If Gary Johnson can just achieve the 15% national recognition required to get on the debate stage with Obama, it will greatly serve the cause of liberty.

I agree with 99% of Gary Johnson’s platform. And most of all he does not behave like a party puppet.

Keep promoting legalization of marijuana - If marijuana would be legalized it could be an incredible boost to this economy and curtail so much of the illegal border activity that has been a lost cause for years.

Go go Gary!

I voted for Ross Perot twice. I did vote for McCain, but he is really not well liked by Republicans. Romney has sold out to appease special interests like the NRA and religious right.

We need radical change. Medicaire and Social Security need to be split apart from the general budget and they need to self sustain. This has been talked about for years. For a while there was a surplus in Social Security.

I agree with something like a VAT. No tax on food, clothing, shelter to a certain amount per person. Don’t tax wealth: capital gains, inheritance, and corporations. If we want businesses to invest in the US we can’t tax them to death. Only people can be greedy, corporations benefit employees, shareholders, and yes upper management. Tax upper management based on their often obscene income, not corporate profits.

I don’t support all of Johnson’s views, but I agree with a lot more of his platform vs. the watered down crap coming from either Obama or Romney.

Go Gary!

I like this post. So interesting to find the different views of people regarding this matter. Anyway, I also like Johnson after all. - Scott t Sohr
