Change We Should Fight

One thing that has been overlooked this election cycle is Obama’s stance on gun rights. In my opinion he has been given a free-ride by the liberal “old media” and without independent organizations the issue would pretty much a non-issue. Any candidate that receives an enthusiastic endorsement by Moveon.org should be looked on with extreme suspicion by gun owners, such as myself. There is an AR-15 here in my apartment and do not be naive enough to think Obama does not want to confiscate it; the only thing stopping him is potential public outrage and independent organizations such as the GOA & NRA.

I will be voting for Bob Barr in the Alabama general election, but if I lived in a swing state I would close my eyes, hold my nose, and pray for forgiveness after voting for the Palin ticket. The Senate will be too close to a filibuster-proof majority to give the White House to Barack Hussein Obama. With the American forces already having a timeline for withdraw in Iraq the issues of guns and taxes are becoming my top priority.

Thanks to the gunbaNObama.com, an NRA site, for the great mock graphic.

I don’t vote in a deep blue state, but instead one that is about 50-50 but hasn’t voted for a Republican for President since the 1980s. I’ll be voting for Barr.

And…? I am liberal and a gun owner and I am also not so naive to think that the guns I have shouldn’t be controlled. My wife and I purchased 2 hand guns in less than 30 minutes with 200+ rounds of ammunition. I thought that was insane! They checked my record to make sure I have never committed a violent crime and hand me the ability to do so! No wait! No no damn thought to what I might do with these guns. I have a gentleman hand me one of the cards in this article and then proceeded to tell me about how he has to pull his gun out 3 times in the last 9 months… Why…? Because the “blacks don’t like the way I put on my brakes…” The only thing running through my mind what “You are why these laws need to be passed!” I have had my guns for two years and I have NEVER had to even think about pulling them out. Hand guns and assault rifles have one designed purpose that is to injure another human being. Such a device requires extremely rigid legislation! Think of it this way. It was easier to buy 2 hand guns a 5 shot 357 magnum and 14 show .45 cal Glock and a license to carry it with me almost anywhere I go than it was for me to get my drivers license. How does that make sense!?

I have to disagree with Zegatheart. The idea that have every sane person armed is going to reduce death tolls is makes no sense. A person that is going to attack you is not in a sane state of mind and as such they will not think twice about the fact that you might have a gun. The idea is to make sure that sane people have guns and realize what a terrible responsibility it is. It’s not a toy and it’s not benign. It’s a %$&king gun!
